4_23 Infrastructure Broadcast (Transportation, AASHTO and More)

Hello, and welcome to this Infrastructure-themed GeoSpatial Stream. I’m your host, Todd Danielson, and today’s Lead Sponsor is Esri’s Geodesign Summit.

Today’s Top Story is Earth Day, which was celebrated on April 22nd. I covered some ways to prepare for Earth Day in a previous broadcast, but I wanted to share some of this video created by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials to celebrate the event.

That was today’s Top Story. I’ll be back with more news after this interview clip from Esri’s Geodesign Summit.

Mississippi legislators authorized $200 million dollars in bonds to pay for transportation investments, mostly for the state’s list of structurally deficient bridges.

The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure announced that the Grand Bend Area Wastewater Treatment Facility in Ontario, Canada, earned its Envision Platinum Award.

And here’s an interesting video from the Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, public transportation plan. If this is how it turns out, I may have to ride it myself someday.

In industry headlines, Topcon Positioning Group introduced its GPT-3500LNW reflector less total station for the construction and mining market, featuring a measuring distance of 2,000 meters.

Esri released its ArcGIS Data Reviewer for Electric Utilities solution to validate, maintain and improve the integrity of electric-distribution data.

And Autodesk released its 2016 Suites for building and civil infrastructure industries, offering a host of improvements to drive the industry’s transformation to Building Information Modeling. These are major releases to a host of products such as AutoCAD, ReCap and the Building Design Suite, so check out the Autodesk Web site for more details.

For today’s Final Thought, here’s a clip from an interview I conducted at the SPAR International conference. It covers some cool reality-capture technology, and you can find the full interview on GeoSpatial Stream as well as V1 Media’s Informed Infrastructure site:
