Today’s Top Story is INTERGEO, the largest independent geospatial technology conference in the world, which is taking place right now in Stuttgart, Germany. If you’re like me and unable to attend because Germany is really far away, here’s a report from the event’s video team, which does some really nice work.

The European Association of Remote Sensing Companies released a market-survey report into the state and health of the continent’s Earth-observation industry. According to the survey, there are 451 companies active in the industry, up from 389 in 2012, and 193 in 2006. Total revenue was estimated at 910 million Euros, up from 786 million Euros in 2012, with a growth rate of about 7.6 percent.
The European Union has been conducting simulated flood-disaster situations monitored by Unmanned Aircraft System technology. The Driving Innovations in Crisis Management for European Resilience project features a D-CODE research aircraft circling over the simulated disaster, taking situational images in real time, which rescue workers can use to coordinate the disaster response.
And the Open Geospatial Consortium, in collaboration with buildingSMART International, is inviting sponsorship in a European-based pilot project to help cities worldwide benefit from modern standards for geospatial technologies.
In industry headlines, Surrey Satellite Technology released the first one-meter-resolution optical satellite imagery from its DMC3/TripleSat Constellation satellites.
Euroconsult published the 8th edition of it report: Satellite-Based Earth Observation: Market Prospects to 2024, noting that more than 400 civil and commercial Earth-observation satellites are expected to be launched during the next decade.
PCI Geomatics released Geomatica Developer Edition, offering access to all Geomatica modules and extensions, including Python-level access to more than 550 algorithms.
Applanix introduced two new solutions to its Position and Orientation Solution for Land Vehicles portfolio, the POS LV 125 and POS LVX.
And Intergraph unveiled its Green GIS initiative in Europe, which offers a more energy-efficient and therefore climate-friendly IT process by reducing storage requirements and energy costs.
